Here’s my painting:
“Awakening in the Imminent Utopia”
acrylic on paper 40×60 in.
Every day I spend considerable amounts of time worrying that the Mayans are right, that Al Gore is right, That all the propheseers of doom are right. Nuclear weaponry, environmental devastation, disease, famine, terrorism, racism, jingoism,…
I try to hold on to hope, but I have serious doubts about the future of our planet – or at least our species. Don’t get me wrong, I will do my part; recycle, eat local and low on the food chain, not take all those shopping bags, ride my bike, write my government officials, etc. Even still I am plagued by the underlying fear that we are doomed.
Many, if not most, cultures had (or have) a pretty clear-cut idea of what the afterworld would (or will) look like. The ancient Egyptians, Greeks, the Renaissance painters and Neo Romantics all had a collective vision of where they were going when the final curtain fell. I am working on establishing a vision of the American Utopia. What will it look like; what stuff of our creation will join us?
